The Fredericks in Dominica

Our third guests to visit us here in Dominica, Sara and Chris arrived on Saturday afternoon on the very late LIAT flight. It ended up being good that they were late because our morning tubing excursion held us up longer than we expected. As soon as we returned to Portsmouth, Justin and I went straight to the rental car lot where Eric, the owner had stayed open late (they close at 1 on Saturdays, we get there at 2:15) just for us. Waiting in the lot was a little two door suv they had ready. Unfortunately, the four of us plus luggage could not possible fit into this little clown car not to mention fitting into it for the next few days as we tour the island (two words: long legs). The only other vehicle they had on the lot was an old four door Suzuki something or other. I said we'd take it.
"But it is a manual transmission"
"That's fine."
"No, I mean with the stick... and the shifting."
"I know, I can drive a stick."
And he looked at me and narrowed his eyes and said, "Let me see."
So I drove around the parking lot to show him my awesome shifting skills and convinced him that I was completely capable (thanks mom and dad!).
Shortly thereafter, we made a quick stop for gas, a slice of pizza, and a few snacks for our guests on the return drive, and we headed for the airport with no time to spare (and no shower after tubing)!

That evening we met our friends Greg, Kyle, and Andrea (who had all been tubing with us earlier) for dinner at Blue Bay. The fish was good and Sara and Chris got their first taste of the island beer Kubuli.

YAY FOR ASHLEY!!!! You drove that suzuki dealio like a pro! Thanks for not making us a casualty of the crazy roads so we could drink lots and lots of kabuli!

It appears that Sara and Chris had a delightful time in Dominica! I can just see you, Ashley, tooling around the parking lot, showing the car rental guy how well you can drive with a stick-shift! Good for you!
