When he's awake...

Jonah still sleeps a majority of the day, but when he's awake here are a few things we do: Jonah has been paying a lot more attention to the lambs on his swing.
And spends a lot of time just chillin' with his mama :)

He's practicing his grasp - looking unimpresseed with himself, but we think he's cool.

Jonah falls asleep

6 weeks old

Six things about Jonah:

1 - he's working on smiling. We're getting closer each day, and can't wait. 2 - he likes tummy time. Okay, well he kicks his legs more than lifts his head, but it's fun.

3 - he's growing. I swear he must be 10 pounds already! We've packed away most of the newborn outfits which will make new pictures more exciting :) 4 - he's social. Aunt Suzie and Uncle Randy came to visit (can't believe we didn't get a picture!), my friend Sara and her daughter from work, and Jackie (in the picture below) a friend from KD.
5 - bath time isn't scary anymore. Sorry no pictures from recent baths, I need both hands for bath time! He'll lay there and relax while we splash him instead of cry inconsolably.

6 - he makes fun noises. My favorite is the little squeaks he makes before he toots!

snakes love me!

yesterday when i opened the sliding glass door to take the trash out, I stepped over the tracks and thought "why is there a stick on the tracks?" so I looked back and it wasn't a stick. IT WAS A SNAKE! granted, the snake was only a foot long and about as thick as my finger, but I'm pretty sure it had no business laying on my doorstep. And I hadn't closed the door behind me!
So I did what any normal woman would do - I screamed like a girl.
Justin's response was very rational - close the door.
Close the door? Um I can't with a snake in the way! But I didn't want it to get inside either. Luckily Justin came to my rescue with a spatula and chopped the snake (which looking back is comical, but at the time was like a knight in shining armor coming to my rescue with a very practical tool!)

Oh, and a neighbor watched it all from the back steps. I'm sure she got a kick out of retelling the story to her friends about the little white girl who screamed about a tiny baby snake.

How weird is it that this is the second time I've stepped over a snake on my back porch? (the first time was in college station before we moved to Dominica - we had to call Animal control for that one though)
what can I say? Snakes love me!

Jonah's first bottle

In preparation for my return to work, I finally have begin pumping so that Jonah can get used to having a bottle. The recommendation is to start around 4-5 weeks so Justin and I planned to try one evening when Justin was home. Unfortunately, we were caught off gaurd yesterday when Jonah woke up early from a nap and demanded to be fed. The milk wasn't quite up to room temperature and we had to try and hold him off for a few minutes until it was ready. He was pretty upset - i mean HUNGRY - by the time we were ready for him. He finally calmed down and only struggled a little. Hopefully he'll get the hang of it in the next few weeks!
