The last time I blogged about vacationing with the Gibsons, we were in Tortola. A lot has changed in the 3 years since then, but we still had a blast camping in Harpers Ferry with Rachel and Brian.
I'll spare you the before picture where we are perfectly tan on a sunny beach. Here we are at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers after a week of storms. Somehow we managed to squeeze our trip between two big thunderstorms.
Jonah snoozed through the walking tour of downtown. Even the train coming through didn't wake him!
We also hiked through a section of the National Park. The flooding closed the more scenic hikes along the water so we settled for an old farm with cannons.

We stayed in a two room cabin near the park. The rain had washed a ravine through the yard and Jonah fell within the first 5 minutes of our trip and scratched his chin. But once he found the cabin's screen door he didn't have to worry about walking on uneven gravel - he stayed on the porch playing with the screen door the whole time.
Rachel brought a berry pie which we lit on fire with 27 candles. Sadie and Ally loved their time off leash in the woods. We made s'mores. We played cornhole. We reminded Rachel and Brian to appreciate an uninterrupted night's sleep. We spent the evenings around the campfire and enjoyed the company of good friends. Our first camping trip was a success!

It's always fun catching up with fellow former islanders. When are you coming to Minnesota?! We're still waiting for the weather to warm up so we can camp too.
