We are the Champions

One of Justin's attending doctors invited the first and second year residents out to dinner on Saturday. We went to a chinese restaurant and ate sushi and peking duck. Jonah ate all of his kids menu sweet and sour shrimp so the doctor ordered him a second one and he almost finished it. Griffin only liked the chicken mixture for the lettuce wraps.

After dinner there was a celebration cake and then we took the boys home and left them with a babysitter so we could attend part two of the party.

Part two consisted of dessert, coffe, and karaoke at the Doctor's house. They have a great set up with a super fancy machine that gives you a score after you sing and microphones that you key in your song choice with. And a song list that was way too long. We got a little competitive after scoring a 98 with our duet of The Gambler by Kenny Rogers. So we went for the triple digit score and I let Justin pick a song.

 Ms. Jackson by Outcast wasn't exactly the type of song everyone else was singing that night but we totally rocked it (and somehow managed to keep up with the fast paced rap lyrics I haven't heard in a long time) and scored the only 100 that night. We were awarded dollar sign necklaces - totally appropriate given the winning song and here's our accompanying gangsta pose:

The whole night was so much fun. Our encore somehow turned into us each doing a solo so I picked what I thought would be a silly romantic song - The power of Love by Celine Dion. Let's just say it got pretty intense and we ended up letting Justin off the hook (there was no way he could top that!). Now we just have to defend our title next time we get together.

the mechanic

We gave Jonah an old tool kit with some wrenches and a pair of pliers to play mechanic. He has spent a lot of time fixing up his rusty old truck but wouldn't you know it keeps breaking down :) Sometimes he'll let Griffin take it for a test drive but it always runs out of gas or the engine overheats. Good thing there's a mechanic in the family!

hello, July

Let's back up a bit and talk about June...

 Justin and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary and our first year of home ownership. Along with owning a home comes the joys, like my first zucchini from my garden;

and frustrations -

We had a couple limbs fall in the backyard (don't worry - those are cable wires)

Jonah and Griffin made it to Texas twice in June.

 Justin turned 30 and we celebrated at the car dealership and finally replaced our car that was totaled months ago with an old Ford Explorer. And a tasty chocolate cake.

 Jonah played his first video game - mariocart on the wii. He loved it.

We've spent lots of time in the pool. This last weekend we went to a pool party with Justin's co-workers to celebrate the end of their year. July 1 starts Justin's third (and hardest, allegedly) year of residency.
 I'm not the best at taking pictures... but got one of the boys with their beach balls before we left. They have so much fun in the water. Here's the one pic someone did take:

Me and Whitney at the pool party... don't worry I'm sure someone was watching the boys!

I'm sure I'm missing lots - it's pretty tough to cover a whole month in one post. Maybe I'll try and be better about that this month :)
