Remember all the rain I was telling you about? It is still raining. Typically the worst effect of constant rain is being inconvenienced while running (walking) my errands. Today I bought electricity for the last time here.
When you prepay, you receive a receipt that is keyed into your power meter. After entering the code, a little song plays to indicate power has been added to the meter. I've recorded it for the first ever video on the blog:
Voila! Power! (don't worry about the background noise, that is just construction on the next level of the apartment. I've totally blocked it out after 6 months of hammering, and I was surprised to hear how loud it really is!)
I also purchased bulk frozen chicken breasts for the last time here. The big box won't fit into my tiny freezer so I repackage them in pairs in my cheap plastic baggies (no zip-locks on these!) for easy thawing.
Friday is also the pick up day for my organic produce from the wonderful Christine, who has an organic farm a few miles away. She is the only person I have found here who sells cilantro!
So I return home slighty damp (well, my feet were soaked!) to prepare dinner for Justin and a few friends only to find this:
That is the color of the water running out of the sink.
You can't tell in the picture except in the glass dish to the side how much sediment is really in the water. Luckily I had a few liters of clean water to cook with but I still had to shower! Which I did only because a slightly earthy scent is superior to musky sweat in my opinion, and it wasn't coming out in chunks of mud like at some people's homes.
Of course the story always ends well. After calling for a taxi to take dinner up to campus for Justin and his friends only to find the wait is 45 minutes, it stopped raining long enough for me to hike up the hill. And dinner was delicious, despite the fact that I forgot my camera to take pictures.
It's just another day in the life of your favorite island girl.

You really have had quite the Adventure on the Island, I'm just sad I was never able to make it out to see you, but it was great getting to see you in Europe, I imagine the next time I will see you would be in Michigan, since you'll prolly already be up there when I get back. Hard to think I have 3 months left and I'm actually quite sad about leaving...Anyways Hope the move goes smoothly n say hey to Justin for me.
