Not your usual Road Trip: Switzerland & Leichtenstein

I know you can't see the spedometer, but we were going over 100 miles/hour on the autobahn!

Where were we going so quickly? Well we decided to go to Salzburg via Switzerland and Leichtenstein. This little detour took us south through the black forest, across the border and Lake Constance, and between the Swiss Alps through the small country of (don't blink!) Leichtenstein, and west to Salzburg. If you're exhausted just from reading that, imagine sitting in the back of a small rental car and then add extra long legs to the equation! But we stopped plenty along the way to get out and stretch, refuel/restock the snacks, and see the beautiful countryside.

We drove along Lake Constance on the Switzerland side and found a great hiking trail where we stopped and enjoyed the views.

In Europe, you have to pay to use some of the restrooms at gas stations! You insert money to go through a turnstile. It doesn't tell you how to exit, though, and you can see a small hole to the right of my arm in the picture where a cut-out of a crouching person was made through the partition. For like 30 seconds I stood there trying to figure out if I was really supposed to crouch down and exit through this hole in the wall until someone else came out and walked back through the turnstile. Needless to say I was very relieved! In Europe there are also a lot of McDonalds. We came upon this one on accident in Switzerland and needed to use the parking lot to turn around, so we stopped in for a quick snack (I can't remember the last time I ate McDonald's... definately not in the past year!) and a quick look at the map!

We drove along side the alps and crossed through the tiniest country, Leitchtenstein, on our way into Austria.
Once we arrived in Salzburg, we checked into a hotel and the took a little tour of Ross' teeny tiny dorm room and the University area where he is spending the year. Then he took us to eat delicious italian food in this little hole in the wall restaurant near campus. Yum!

Glad you had a good time in Europe, it was great getting to see you! Have fun with Sara when she comes and visits you, I wish I had the money to visit you, but I'm so poor all I'm eating is Rice to survive...I know sad but true, not much else you can do when you live on the Euro and don't have any income!
