Years & Cheers

On Saturday, Rachel and I threw an Anniversary/Birthday Party fajita bar-b-que to celebrate Justin and my one year anniversary and Rachel's husband Brian's 25th birthday.
Me and Rachel, hostesses

After a whole day of preparing food, we were ready for a party. I think the students felt the same way, with their first test coming up next Monday, everyone was eager to take a break before pre test stress.
All the bookstore girls before the party: Leslie, me, Christina, Jennifer, and Rachel

Everyone started to show up about 7:30, some bringing gifts of chips (thanks Mike) and rice (thanks Jen) and drinks. One of Justin's friends even bought us a baby pineapple with a cute face taped on. How could we not take a picture?

Justin was thrilled!

As soon as the chicken was done, we ate. I made tortillas and drunken beans (no pintos on the island, so I had to use red beans!), there was rice, chips & salsa, and plenty of dessert.

The spread, it didn't last long!

Christina's fiance, Andrew and some buddies manning the grill. Later on we grilled pineapple slices sprinkled with cinnamon. Delicious!Christina and Andrew. They are getting married in August in North Carolina.
Robert, Jen, and Greg, post dinner

Brian (the birthday boy), Greg (the dive instructor), Rachel, and Mike (the Aggie)

Rachel really set the standard for Anniversary parties. She baked a delicious lemon cake with buttercream frosting to replace to top layer of cake we couldn't bring with us. I must admit, it was delicious. I'll have to show her up for her anniversary in October.

Lemon Cake!We even fed each other pieces...Justin really liked it. Can you tell?In memory of the infamous scrubs picture I love so much... you know the one.

So then the real festivities began. You could tell everyone was really relaxing and enjoying not thinking about gastrointestinal tracts and fuctions of the kidneys.

We took tequila shotsPlayed beer pong...
Mike showed off his Aggie Ring. It's a small world, Mike actually lived on the same street in College Station as we did after we got married. He brought an iPod full of Texas country songs I hadn't listened to in forever.Justin and I danced for the first time in a long time!It was so much fun to spend such a special day with all our new friends. After everyone else had gone home, Rachel, Brian, Mike, Lauren, Justin, and I stayed up and played country music and talked (real talk, not med school stuff) until late.

Happy 1st Anniversary! I thought about y'all all day Sunday, but we were busy with Grandmama and Papa's 50th anniversary brunch. Then we drove back home to Marshall. Uncle Scott and I celebrated our 28th anniversary on June 2nd! (It was just an anniversary weekend!)
Your party pictures are great. I'm glad that you have made lots of friends in Dominica.
I like your count-down at the end of the blog!
Lots of love, Aunt Mimi
